Hip Roof Replacement Case Study
Objective
The property at required a complete renewal of its existing roof covering due to aged and deteriorating composite tiles. The client sought a durable, weather-resistant, and modern roof finish that complemented the property's character while ensuring full compliance with current building regulations.
Scope of Work
Our team undertook a comprehensive roof replacement involving full removal of the old system and installation of new Cembrit fibre cement tiles.
Key stages included:
- Erection of full wrap single lift scaffolding to gutter height for safety and access.
- Driveway and pathway protection using Correx boards and OSB boards beneath the skip.
- Provision of tarpaulins to ensure weather protection during the works.
-  Careful removal of all existing roof materials including: - Composite tiles
- Battens
- Breathable membrane
 
- Cleaning and preparation of all rafters, hips, and ridge boards.
Installation Process
All timber elements were cleaned and inspected. Minor adjustments and reinforcements were made to ensure a stable base for the new roof system.
- Installed breathable felt membrane for optimal ventilation and moisture control.
- Fixed 25mm x 50mm certified treated roofing battens at the correct gauge for the new tile system.
- Felt lap vents were added where required to enhance roof ventilation.
- Supplied and fitted Cembrit fibre cement tiles (600" x 300"), including double tiles and tile-and-a-half sections where needed.
- Installed new ridge kits with a dry venting interlocking ridge system for long-term performance.
- Ensured all materials complied with the Code of Practice for Tiling and Slating.
- Repaired and made good the rear fascia board connected to the guttering.
- Removed the rear timber section of the lean-to roof and replaced it with two new timber struts, aligned with the existing upright posts.
- Boarded out sections of the loft space to provide a safe working area and protect the ceiling below.
Waste Management & Compliance
- All waste materials were disposed of responsibly using our registered Waste Carriers License.
- A skip was supplied on-site for efficient waste collection.
- Local Building Control was involved throughout the process, ensuring all work was compliant and officially signed off upon completion.

The client at now benefits from a durable, low-maintenance, and aesthetically pleasing new roof system built to last. The use of Cembrit fibre cement tiles ensures long-term weather protection and enhanced energy efficiency.
