ProPERLA Coatings: Historical Information
Countrywide no longer offers ProPERLA coating services
We do not quote for, sell, supply or apply ProPERLA coatings. This page is kept online so that anyone following an older Countrywide link arrives at an accurate explanation rather than an offer that no longer stands.

Current status
Where things stand now
So there is no ambiguity, here is exactly what is and is not the case today.
Not offered
We do not supply or apply it
Countrywide does not sell, quote for, supply or apply ProPERLA coatings, and has not done so since the service was withdrawn.
Not a partner
No current accreditation
Nothing here should be read as a claim that Countrywide is a current ProPERLA installer, applicator or accredited partner. No warranty, endorsement or supplier relationship is implied.
No alternative
We do not offer a replacement
Anyone specifically seeking an exterior wall coating or a ProPERLA applicator will need to approach a specialist in that field.
Background
What ProPERLA is
A third-party coating range, not a Countrywide product. This is what it was and where it went when we applied it.
ProPERLA is a third-party branded range of exterior coatings and paints for buildings, described by its manufacturer as super hydrophobic, meaning it is designed to repel water from the surface to which it is applied. It is not a Countrywide product, and Countrywide has no involvement in its manufacture.
Where Countrywide applied it, it went on exterior surfaces, principally external walls and masonry. It was a surface treatment applied to the outside of a building rather than an insulation material installed within the structure.

The reasoning at the time
Why Countrywide previously used it
The case made on this page while the service was offered ran as follows. Moisture in building materials is a key driver of energy loss, because wet materials transfer heat much more quickly than dry materials. Testing referenced at the time indicated that a damp content of 5% in a plain brick wall could lower that wall's insulation performance by up to 50%. Keeping external walls and roofs dry was therefore presented as a way of helping a property hold on to more of the heat it generates.
On that basis, ProPERLA coatings were offered as a treatment intended to keep weather out of the building fabric while helping to keep warmth inside. That reasoning is recorded here as history, not as a current recommendation.
