Open-Cell Spray Foam Removal and Loft Insulation Top-Up in Weston-super-Mare
Countrywide Roofing & Insulation completed 53m² of open-cell spray foam removal and added a 150mm insulation top-up across 30m² of loft floor at a property in Weston-super-Mare.
The project involved working around a trussed roof structure to expose the roof lining and timbers, followed by topping up the existing loft-floor insulation.
Project overview
| Location | Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset |
| Services | Open-cell spray foam removal and loft insulation top-up |
| Spray foam removed | Approximately 53m² |
| Insulation top-up area | Approximately 30m² |
| Additional insulation depth | 150mm |
| Roof construction | Timber trussed roof |
Working around the roof structure
The loft contained a network of timber trusses, with open-cell spray foam covering the roof lining between the rafters.
The angled braces and smaller adjoining roof spaces made this a different working environment from an open, unobstructed loft. Access around the timbers was an important consideration when planning the removal.
The before photographs show the extent of the foam coverage, with much of the underlying roof lining concealed.
Removing 53m² of open-cell spray foam
Our team removed approximately 53m² of open-cell spray foam, working around the timber framework and taking care around the underlying roof materials.
The after photographs show the roof lining exposed between the rafters, with the trusses and roof surfaces much easier to see. These images provide a clear comparison with the foam-covered roof before the work.
Topping up the loft-floor insulation
Alongside the removal, we topped up approximately 30m² of existing loft insulation with an additional 150mm layer.
This increased the insulation depth across the agreed area while keeping the new insulation at loft-floor level. The 150mm measurement refers to the layer added, rather than the total finished depth.
The finished result
The completed project brought together two improvements: removal of the open-cell foam from the roof and an insulation top-up across the loft floor.
The photographed roof surfaces were left substantially clearer, with the roof lining and timber structure visible, while the existing floor insulation received an additional 150mm layer across 30m².
