PCA and Spray Foam Removal: Clarifying Certification Claims

PCA-Spray-Foam-Removal-Explained PCA-Spray-Foam-Removal-Explained

September 2026: following the PCA stakeholder meeting on 2 September

Homeowners arranging spray foam removal deserve clear information about the company they choose, including its experience, qualifications and any claimed industry accreditation.

Following the recent Property Care Association (PCA) meeting, we want to explain Countrywide Roofing & Insulation Ltd’s involvement and clarify the difference between following professional guidance and holding formal approval.

What was the PCA developing?

In its announcement dated 25 August 2026, the PCA explained that it was looking to establish a dedicated membership sector for spray foam removal contractors.

The meeting on 2 September was intended to discuss entry criteria, technical standards, independent assessment and verification after removal. At that stage, the dedicated removal membership framework was still being developed. Attendance at the meeting did not make a contractor PCA approved or certified for spray foam removal.

Homeowners should therefore question any claim of removal-specific PCA certification and ask the PCA to verify precisely what approval the company holds.

Countrywide’s involvement

Countrywide Roofing & Insulation Ltd attended the PCA stakeholder meeting to contribute to discussions about standards and responsible working practices within the spray foam removal industry.

During those discussions, we were advised that the practices we described were consistent with the guidance discussed. This was feedback on our approach, rather than formal accreditation, certification or endorsement.

We do not claim to be PCA certified for spray foam removal. We follow relevant published PCA guidance and RICS advice, and we intend to apply to join the dedicated removal scheme once it becomes available, subject to its requirements.

Following guidance does not mean holding accreditation

A company can refer to professional guidance without being a member of the organisation that published it. The PCA makes its technical guidance available to members and non-members alike.

Similarly, attending a meeting, completing a course or participating in a consultation does not automatically establish company membership or approval for a particular service.

The PCA’s existing Spray Foam Assessor Register concerns the assessment of installations. That role should be distinguished from the proposed membership sector for contractors carrying out removal.

How homeowners can check a claim

If a contractor describes itself as “PCA approved”, “PCA certified” or “PCA affiliated”, ask what that means and which service the claim covers.

Check the company through the PCA’s official member search and contact the association if the position is unclear. The PCA provides a company-name search specifically for checking registration.

Before agreeing to work, also ask for:

  • A clear written scope
  • Evidence of relevant experience
  • Insurance details
  • An explanation of how the condition of the roof will be documented
