Marley Roof Tiles
The tiles, battens and dry fix we use on re-roofing work
When a roof needs recovering, either in its own right or because spray foam has damaged the covering, Marley is where we buy most of our tiles and roofing components. This page explains what the range covers and how we choose from it.

Marley is a British roofing manufacturer and one of the longest established names in the trade. The range runs from concrete interlocking tiles and plain tiles through to clay tiles and fibre cement slates, alongside the parts that go underneath and around them: graded roofing battens, breathable underlays, and dry fix systems for ridges, hips and verges.
That breadth is the practical reason we use them. On a recover we are rarely buying one item. We are buying a tile, a batten, an underlay, a ventilation detail and a set of ridge and verge components that are all meant to work together, from one source, on one delivery.
Where we use it
On the jobs it suits
Most of our tiling work falls into two groups. The first is a full recover, where the tiles come off, the battens and underlay are renewed and the roof goes back on. The second is a repair or a partial strip, where we are matching into a roof that is staying put.
On a full recover the choice is open, and it comes down to the pitch of the roof, the exposure of the site, what the neighbouring properties look like and what the budget will carry. Concrete interlocking tiles cover ground quickly and sit comfortably on the majority of modern pitched roofs. Plain tiles and clay suit older properties and conservation work, where the look of the finished roof matters as much as the weathering.
On a repair the choice is made for us. We match the existing profile and colour as closely as the range allows, and we tell you honestly when an exact match is not available, because a patch in the wrong profile is obvious from the pavement and worth avoiding.
Worth knowing
Battens, underlay and dry fix
The tile is the part you can see, and it is not usually the part that fails. Battens that have rotted, an underlay that has torn or perished, and ridges and verges bedded in mortar that has cracked away are what let water in. We renew battens and underlay as a matter of course on a recover rather than re-using what is there.
For ridges, hips and verges we generally fit dry fix rather than mortar. Mortar bedding needs maintenance and tends to be the first thing to let go on an exposed roof. Dry fix is mechanically fixed, which costs a little more at the outset and gives less trouble afterwards.
If spray foam has been removed from your roof, the survey will tell you whether the covering can stay as it is or whether a recover is the sensible answer. More on that in our roofing and re-roofing guides, and the service itself is on the pitched roofing page.
