Spray foam roof remediation
Closed-cell spray foam roof remediation
Closed-cell spray foam can affect more than the visible surface inside a loft. Where the roof build-up needs to be inspected or repaired, removing visible foam and remediating the roof are different pieces of work.
Removal deals with the foam. Remediation deals with the roof.
Survey. Removal. Roofing. Evidence. Completion.

What roof remediation means
Two pieces of work sit behind the same conversation, and they are not interchangeable.
Removal deals with the foam that can be reached. On many properties that means the material bonded to the faces of the rafters and the underlay as seen from inside the loft, taken back by hand or by machine. On some properties that is the appropriate scope and nothing further is required.
Its limitation is one of access rather than effort. What faces into the loft can be reached. What sits on the other side of the roof build-up cannot, unless the covering is lifted.
Remediation is the roof-led piece. Depending on the property, it can involve exposing the build-up from outside, checking the membrane, battens, timbers and coverings, carrying out any roofing work that is required, and recording what was found and what was done.
Which of the two a property needs depends on what the foam was applied to, how far it has penetrated, and the condition of the roof underneath. That is what a survey is for.

Closed-cell removal and roof remediation
What closed-cell foam bonds to, where internal removal reaches, and what roof-led remediation adds.

Guide in preparationRemoval and remediation, side by side
Removal
- Accessible foam
- Visible internal surfaces
- Material removal
- May be appropriate on some properties
Remediation
- Roof build-up
- Membrane and battens
- Coverings and timbers where relevant
- Roofing works where required
- Evidence and documentation
Neither column is a verdict on any particular contractor or any particular property. Internal removal is a legitimate method. Which scope is right depends on what the survey establishes. For the removal service itself, see spray foam removal.
Evidence
What evidence should exist afterwards
We are not selling you a certificate saying the foam has disappeared. We are giving you an evidence trail showing what happened to your roof.

Already had the foam removed?
If the foam is already gone but the roof, sale, survey or paperwork question is not resolved, start with the second-opinion route.
Work we have carried out
Completed roofing and spray foam projects, with photographs of the work as it was carried out.
Find out what your roof actually needs
Every property is different. A survey establishes what is visible, what may need further investigation and what scope is appropriate.
