Spray Foam Removal Across Two Lofts in Somerset
Countrywide Roofing & Insulation completed 70m² of spray foam removal across two loft spaces, alongside the installation of 150mm loft-floor insulation across 50m², at a property in Somerset.
The project involved two different roof underlays, restricted access around a tank and awkward eaves that needed careful attention during removal.
Project overview
| Location | Somerset |
| Services | Spray foam removal and loft insulation |
| Loft spaces | Two |
| Spray foam removed | Approximately 70m² |
| Roof underlays | Approximately 24m² breathable membrane and 46m² bitumen felt |
| Loft insulation installed | 150mm across approximately 50m² |
| Particular challenges | Restricted access around a tank and awkward eaves |
Two lofts with different roof underlays
The spray foam installation extended across two loft spaces. Beneath it were approximately 24m² of breathable membrane and 46m² of bitumen felt.
Our site assessment recorded the existing underlays as solid. Working across these different materials required care when removing the foam and exposing the roof surfaces beneath.
The before photographs show foam covering the roof slopes between the rafters, concealing much of the underlying material.
Reaching the awkward eaves
One of the main challenges was access into the lower sections of the roof. The eaves were awkward to reach, while a tank restricted movement elsewhere in the loft.
Our team worked through these areas as part of the removal, clearing foam from the eaves as well as the more accessible roof slopes.
Across both lofts, approximately 70m² of spray foam was removed. The after photographs show the exposed roof underlay and timber surfaces, providing a clear comparison with the original installation.
Installing loft-floor insulation
The project also included installing 150mm loft-floor insulation across approximately 50m².
This combined the roof-level foam removal with insulation work at loft-floor level, addressing both elements within the same project.
The finished result
The completed work left the photographed roof slopes substantially clearer, with the rafters and underlay visible again. The awkward eaves were cleared, and 50m² of loft-floor insulation was installed.
This project shows why the layout of each loft matters when planning spray foam removal. Two separate spaces, different underlays and restricted working areas all shaped the work required.
