Open-Cell Spray Foam Removal from a Narrow Loft in Worcester

This open-cell spray foam removal project involved a narrow loft with substantial timber supports and dark roof felt behind the installation. Existing insulation and stored rolls occupied parts of the floor area.

Countrywide Roofing & Insulation removed the foam from the roof slopes, revealing the felt and rafter surfaces shown in the after photographs.

Working within a confined roof space

The before images show foam projecting between the rafters above the loft floor. Larger cross-timbers interrupted the working space, while the roof slopes reduced the available room towards the sides.

The removal followed these sections around the existing supports. The project record includes different angles so the result is not represented only by the easiest area to photograph.

Revealing the darker roof felt

After removal, the felt is visible between the timber lines and behind the main supports. The after views show the overlaps in the lining and the relationship between the roof surface and the loft floor below.

Photographs from opposite positions help show the extent of the cleared roof sections. The larger supports can be followed across the loft, alongside the smaller rafters above them.

The completed roof sections

The substantial foam coverage seen in the before photographs has been removed from the areas shown, exposing the roof lining and adjoining timbers. Existing floor insulation remains visible beneath the worked roof sections.

This project shows the value of planning around a loft’s actual dimensions and framework. In a narrow roof space, the position of the main supports and the access route matter as much as the amount of foam present.
